You Were There: Part 2

The Auburn rivalry with Georgia is the oldest in the South. Having been played nearly every year since 1892 these two schools have met 116 times on the gridiron. UGA has had the upper hand of late, leveling the series at 54-54-8.

Since Auburn is located on the Eastern side of the great State of Alabama and Georgia is the direct Eastern neighbor to our state, it is no wonder many Auburn fans have their most precious memories tied to this game. In fact, many Auburn fans and former Auburn football players hail from Georgia.

Auburn was ranked number 3 in the AP and Georgia was at number 8. I was working as a volunteer that day to assist people around the Auburn campus. The atmosphere was electric, ESPN had the big screen set up on the coliseum lawn and the roads all around the stadium were packed with fans from both sides.
Auburn won the game on that Saturday 24-6 and Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown accounted for 260 yards. Carnell also threw a pass for a touchdown and returned a punt for 40 yards. Ronnie Brown scored later on a 15 yard pass and the score was 24-0.
