Reflections of Spring

No the two top QB's were not "live" on the field Saturday as Auburn executed it's annual A Day game. Some of the throws would have been made that were called sacks, and some of the passes would never have seen the light of day in a real game scenario. However, all of Auburn's QB's looked really good, and that is a wonderful thing to see. Offensively.

After working hard for three years at Auburn, Jeremy Johnson has been named the starting QB for the 2015 season. In his three starts at Auburn, Jeremy Johnson has been a model of consistency.

 Jeremy will excel in this offense. He already has. His 73% completion rate and near NFL caliber arm are just two of the reasons that Johnson has been given the keys to the "Gus Bus."

The Will Muschamp effect was on full display during Auburn's spring game last Saturday. An audible difference in the meeting of defender and ball carrier was evident. 

There wasn't any diving at the feet of an offensive player. There wasn't any one man on an island, left to save the day. It was an all out attack.

There are still many concerns about this Auburn team. Defensive secondary depth being foremost. 

Josh Holsey is probably the most steady defensive back. His cover skills are very good. We know what Jonathan Jones can do when healthy. The addition of Tray Mathews is a huge plus. Rudy Ford has been praised by players and coaches alike. 

These guys will need some quality depth behind them. It is incumbent that someone steps up and becomes that dependable "go to guy" at each of these positions.

Overall, it was a great spring. 
 

"Looking at the scrimmage, I think our guys played extremely hard on both side of the ball," Malzahn said. "We played everybody, kind of mixed and matched. The effort was good, the attitude was good, and that was kind of our message throughout the spring. We came out of this this thing with no major injuries, and that's always a very positive thing from a head coach's stand point. Overall, I like where we're at and I think it was a very successful day." - Gus Malzahn
