The Passion of Sammie

Earlier this week Sammie Coates called out some of his Senior team mates, questioning their leadership and desire to win. here is an excerpt from his statement.

"We don't have leadership," said Coates. "Everybody talks about wanting to win, but nobody is showing how they want to win."

This was taken from an article on al.com by Charles Goldberg.

Whenever a team mate calls out the team leaders, its usually to get everyone's attention that he is tired of and frustrated about, losing. Nobody likes to lose, and especially the way Auburn has found ways to lose this season.

Up until the Arkansas game, Auburn has led scoring average in all of the first three quarters of the games it has played this season. The fourth quarter has proven to be the Achilles heel.

Too much has been made of the quarterback change last Saturday. Coach Chizik was looking for someone to spark an inept offense, that quite frankly has been very inconsistent all season long. That spark was not found against the defensive unit the Hogs put on the field Saturday.

The question remains about Sammie Coates and his frustration. Is this team floundering because no one will take charge on the field on Saturdays? Tough questions deserve tough answers, so I'll try my stab at it.

I guarantee that someone has to take charge of the Auburn offense on Saturdays, and that someone has to be a QB. Like it or not, if you are the man in the huddle calling the plays, and you are in charge of reading the defense to change some of those play calls, then by God you better be in complete charge of that team on the field.

Frazier, Moseley, or Wallace each have to pump up their offensive line to bust someone's ass, and have everybody's attention of the snap count. All of this is on the quarterbacks. No. One. Else!

Auburn must get better. It's a plain and simple statement, but one that has more and more urgency. Here is to hoping that comes about, before it's too late.

Later, Than Usual

My apologies to everyone for the late post game chat. I was out of town at a car show, and watched the game with some friends. I was embarrassed to say the least, as most of you are at how unprepared we looked at times.

As usual we have to question the play calling/decision making by Coach Loeffler, and wonder what could have been. The continuing saga, of why doesn't Auburn run the ball more, and where is the power football we were promised in January of this year, has been more than difficult to endure.

I love watching Auburn football. I could sit and listen to Rod Bramblett call AU football games 365 days a year. There is nothing more enjoyable or inspiring than to step into Jordan-Hare stadium on a fall Saturday. Many of you know these feelings, and most of you agree with what I am saying. Last Saturday had ZERO fun in it for us fans, and made me more than a little queasy to watch the utter humiliation our team suffered at the hands of Arkansas.

Most of you know that I will not bash on players, and that will always be the case. Coaches on the other hand, they are fair game. Our coaching staff offensively is not getting the job done. The young offensive line is playing just like a young offensive line will do, very inconsistent.

When I see our QB's continually throwing terrible passes missing wide open receivers, I have to question their development, and their willingness to achieve sound fundamentals. Auburn quarterbacks are not playing good football right now. The lone exception is young Jonathan Wallace. I would hate to see him thrust into the game, with all else that is wrong offensively. It might just ruin him.

Here is to hoping that our beloved Tigers can find a way to get together, and win a SEC game against Ole Miss. If not, we may not see another win until Homecoming. Shudder the thought.

No matter what we are faced with though, I will continue to support our players, offer up prayers for them and their families, and hope that this coaching staff can pull it together and turn things around quickly!

Auburn athletics has aired segments of "Auburn Football Everyday", the award winning show that goes inside Auburn University football, on the Auburn Athletics channel, which is on YouTube.

Thankfully we are able to share some of those segments with you here.

This piece is called Inside the Trenches with Jeff Whitaker. Enjoy.

Kiehl Frazier Set to Improve

Auburn fans everywhere are questioning the continued support of Kiehl Frazier by Coach Chizik and his staff. As we have stated here, Frazier may be the only hope at QB for the Tigers this season.

Regardless, Frazier knows he can step up his play, and it seems he is intent on doing just that. Watch the following video, and please feel free to comment below. Just click on the word comment, and a box will appear for you.

Octoberfest

This month of October is as huge as any in recent memory for me. Not just coaching staff, but recruiting and keeping some of these potentially borderline NFL draftees from leaving early. It's also the time of harvest. Farmers and hunters alike flock to the fields to take from God's bounty.

Auburn needs to become a hunter. They need to take an attitude of "We are going to a Bowl game, no matter what we have to do". The question is, can they do it?

Everyone saw just how bare the cupboard became when the Senior class that won the BCS National Championship graduated. Couple that with some untimely departures by some that would be leading this team right now, and you have a situation just like the one Auburn finds its self in.

Losing seasons affect more than fans and coaches directly. Recruiting is won with winning coaches, or a staff that is rebuilding a team. Very few, if any, see Auburn as having to rebuild a football program, but that is exactly what Gene Chizik is having to do. That makes recruiting that much more important.

This coaching staff has recruited well, now they must coach well, and continue recruiting well. That is a much easier task when you can make Bowl games, and win championships.

Coach Chizik must find a way to get Kiehl Frazier more comfortable, and therefore more successful at QB, and keep his offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler, from calling plays that keep that offense from being in a hole on second down. 2nd and 8 is better than 2nd and 13 every day of the week, so let's change up the play calling a little, and do what Auburn does best. Just win baby!
