Auburn Cornerbacks Coach - Melvin Smith

Here is a special segment on Coach Melvin Smith. If Auburn is make a huge turnaround defensively, it will have to limit the number of big plays it allows. Lock down type of defensive backs are made, not born. I look forward to seeing improved play from our cornerbacks.
Thanks to AUHD for the video.

The Tradition Continues

Over the years Auburn's football teams have developed a tradition of excellence at the Defensive End position. This position alone has averaged over 11.0 sacks per season since 2007. The leading returner in sacks is Dee Ford, who received rave reviews in the spring from the new coaching staff.

Currently there are three former Tigers in the NFL that played this position. So it goes that this would be a selling point to any new recruit looking to make an entrance into the NFL from college.

I would like to introduce to you the latest Auburn commit that should he continue with his commitment and sign with Auburn in February, will most likely be the next great Auburn player at the defensive end position. I give you Justin Thornton.

Let's hear from his high school coach first.

Now listen as he makes his decision to play at Auburn. He planned on making the announcement early, so that he could concentrate on his Senior season in high school. He chose to annonce on Mother's Day for his Mom.

Listen to a proud Mom after Justin's announcement.

For all the theatrics we see each year, and for the sour taste some recruits and recruiters have instilled  in our thoughts, this is a refreshing change. welcome to the Auburn family Justin Thorton.

AU Baseball Team Visits Children's Hospital

Dedicated to Greatness

Picked outside the Top 10? So?

Picked outside the Top 25? Okay.

Not picked at all in any preseason poll? Nothing new. In fact, Auburn football is right back where it  almost always is at this time of year, having to prove to the world that it has relevance in the naming of the Southeastern Conference football champion. Why would this upcoming football season be any different? To get the full answer we must look back, and only then can we truly look forward.

This past season, we Auburn fans suffered through one of the worst seasons in Auburn football history. Only winning three games against nine losses proved to be the undoing of a coaching staff that had just two seasons previously taken Auburn and its fans to the pinnacle of the college football world.

Now, with an entirely new coaching staff, we find ourselves having to start over earning respect, and proving to the world that we "belong". When in fact, nothing could be farther from the truth. We have no need in proving anything!

Auburn football has had 7 Perfect Seasons 12 Undefeated Seasons 11 Conference Championships Named #1 at the end of 9 Seasons 1910,1913,1914,1957,1958 1983,1993, 2004, and 2010. We have nothing to prove at all!   Except to ourselves.

We know the results from last season are an anomaly. A speed bump on our highway to greatness. Now is the time to fight and scratch our way back to the top.

We have the players. Our recruiting has been among the best in the country. So say the experts. Every other Top 10 school in recruiting has been enjoying their bountiful harvests with winning seasons and Bowl appearances. While these recruiting experts occasionally miss on the rankings of high school athletes, the odds that they miscalculated those abilities of every Auburn recruit over the past three seasons  are greater than your chances of winning the Powerball.

Talent, and SEC coaching experience are bountiful at Auburn. The key element to stepping back on that podium in Atlanta is dedication. A dedication to excellence, a dedication to greatness of team, not just ones self.  How well this group pulls together, and pulls for each other, will determine their greatness.

David Housel's Address To Auburn

You have heard it said that nothing will be the same here at Auburn after these trees come down. Well I say to you there’s more to Auburn than two oak trees, revered and sturdy as they are. These oaks trees are but an outward , invisible symbol of what’s in the Auburn heart.
You’ve also hear it said that today is a day of mourning. But I say to you that this is a day of celebration and remembrance, a time to celebrate all the good times we’ve shared here in the years past. Great victories, even graduations, engagements—the whole of the Auburn experience, and remembrance of the people we have shared those times with.
And now, and perhaps most importantly, you have heard the naysayers, the prophets of doom, gloom, destruction, and despair, as they have written Auburn off, as they have written you off. But I say to them as I say to you—they don’t know Auburn. They don’t know Auburn soul, down deep where we live, where have have our being… orange and blue and fearless and true. And they don’t know the resiliency of Auburn and Auburn people. As William Faulkner said of mankind, I say of Auburn. I decline to accept the end of Auburn. Auburn will not merely endure, Auburn will prevail.
A writer named John Dryden a long time ago said, “I am wounded, but I am still here. Let me lie down by the side of the road and I will rise again and fight you again.” And that’s what Auburn will do. We will rise again. We will fight again. We will win again. And we will prevail again. And time and time and time again, we will gather right here on this hallowed ground at Toomer’s Corner, and celebrate the experiences of our life and the experiences of Auburn. Owning much to the past, our greater debt is ever to the future. The future is ours, ladies and gentlemen. The future is Auburn’s. Let’s go get it. Let’s go take it, let’s prevail and bring it here to Toomer’s Corner.

Knocking Down The Doors

I have a news flash for every recruit out there today, that has aspirations of playing in the SEC. Auburn University is where you want to be. No matter where you played your high school football, Auburn is coming to try and get you to the Loveliest Village on the Plains.

Prattville High School was considered an Alabama supply line for years, nay decades. Not anymore! Two recruits chose to step out of that comfort zone, and commit with the school that has the most upside. Kamryn Pettaway will join the Tigers in 2014, and so will former Lion standout Derrick Moncrief. Moncrief is rated the number one JUCO safety prospect in the country and number six overall.

Our cross state rivals had been beating us to some of the top prospects in the Mobile area as well lately. This weekend has shown that Auburn is making a huge push in that neck of the woods. No less than four of the seven current Auburn commits are from the Mobile, AL region.

Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn and his staff are working long hours, and getting results. The places that these future prospects are coming from shows us that we aren't just getting a few that may slip through the cracks. Our coaches have been knocking down some doors!
