batter stepped to the plate in game three in the Alabama State
Championship. A slight breeze wafted into his face while the young
man surveyed the outfield and then set his gaze directly into the
eyes of the pitcher. The pressure of the situation, with the bases
loaded, the score knotted at two apiece, was immense.</span><p></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">The pitcher winds up and sends a rocket
to the catcher's mitt, only the ball never makes its intended
destination. With a mighty swing, a bases-clearing double is sent
into deep right-center field. When the excited young baseball player
looks back at the bench from second base and eventually into the
stands. There standing tall above everyone else is his
Father relishing in his son's accomplishment with both fists held
high in the air. That was Kurt Crain the Dad.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Kurt Crain became an Auburn Legend
during his time on the Plains. Without a doubt the height of the Pat
Dye era at Auburn created many memorable players. Kurt Crain stood
out among them.
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">A younger Kurt Crain played multiple
sports while attending Berry High School. Picked by the Cincinnati
Reds in the amateur draft out of high school Crain chose to go to
Auburn, after a brief stint with the University of Memphis, and play
football in 1986. He became a starter in his first year. 1987 saw
Kurt Crain blossom into an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_All-SEC_football_team">All-SEC
first team Linebacker</a> and an All-American. Crain led a stout
defense with five interceptions returning one for a touchdown.
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">One day at practice Crain, the soon-to-be Auburn Legend, broke the forbidden rule. Bo Jackson came running
the ball around where Crain was set and his instinct took over as he
tackled Bo. Pat Dye had a rule: You were not allowed to tackle Bo!
Coach Dye immediately kicked him out of practice. That was Kurt Crain
the competitor.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"> Kurt Crain would later tell his sons
he felt sorry sometimes for the opposing offensive linemen. In the
huddle, “back when teams huddled”, Crain would look around at the
guys and think to himself “ we are about to destroy these guys, and
there's nothing they can do about it.”
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"> It's no wonder Kurt Crain felt that
way. With the future number one pick in the NFL Draft in Aundray
Bruce along with Tracy Rocker, Quentin Riggins, Craig Ogletree, Benji
Roland, Kevin Porter, and many others. That stingy defense finished
third in the nation in scoring defense allowing a paltry 11 points a
game.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Ask any college football fan in the
state of Alabama and they will quickly tell you the Iron Bowl is the
most important game of every season. Backed up with claims of the
game being the best rivalry in all of football.
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><br />
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">*The New York Times printed a story via
Associated Press about the 1987 Iron Bowl which Auburn won 10-0.
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"> “<span style="color: #333333;"><span>Until
Auburn's 99-yard drive, the game was dominated by the defenses, with
the Auburn linebacker, Kurt Crain, halting Alabama with an
interception...”</span></span>
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Crain would be drafted in the sixth
round of the NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers along with Chris Dishman
and Lorenzo White among others. Kurt used to jokingly tell folks of
Bill Romanowski (3rd round Forty-Niners) was <br />picked
before him in the draft. Saying “the guy who made that pick was the
smartest man in the room.”
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">A projected third-round pick, Crain
went to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL against the pleading of his
Father, and promptly tore his ACL on a sprinkler head. The injury
dropped his draft status.
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">That was Kurt Crain the football
player.
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Once his playing days were finished
Kurt took up coaching. His passion and love for the game were
something he wanted to share. Kurt Crain had a coaching philosophy
that was hard as he could coach you and get on you, whenever we leave
the field, he would love on you just as hard, just as passionately.
He'd never leave the field with his players without letting them know
why he coached them so hard. It was because he loved them.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">One such player came up from a bad part
of town ( we are intentionally leaving names and places out of this
part) both parents were abusing drugs and nobody else would touch the
kid. Crain saw the potential and worked diligently with the young
man. The player graduated college and is now the VP of a
construction company. That was Kurt Crain the Coach.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">We can't thank Jake Crain enough. This
story would have been nearly impossible without his guidance and
insight. Sometimes the journey down memory lane was emotional, while
other times joyous. When we asked Jake for some thoughts about his
Dad, he was quick to share.</span></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MSm5snQA1Rs/YUGzH44LqsI/AAAAAAAAR8Y/SYk72hpfCiQn6FzywUQjAEVf-15NxOsVgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Jake%2B2%2Bcopy.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1738" data-original-width="2048" height="340" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MSm5snQA1Rs/YUGzH44LqsI/AAAAAAAAR8Y/SYk72hpfCiQn6FzywUQjAEVf-15NxOsVgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h340/Jake%2B2%2Bcopy.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">photo courtesy Rob Altemari</td></tr></tbody></table>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"> “The stuff I remember is going
fishing or hunting. Don't get me wrong we'd talk football a lot and
watch film. He'd sit us down and show us “this is Power, this is
the “I”, this is why they're doing that.”</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">As good of a football player he was, he
was an even better baseball player.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">He's literally still the funniest
person I ever met.” He had this face he'd make when he wanted to
make sure we were paying attention. We called it “Iron Face.” </span></p><p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">That was Kurt Crain the Dad.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">It didn't matter what size you were.
What you did. What color your skin was. Where you were from. Who you
voted for. He cared. He treated everybody the same and he never “big-timed” anyone.
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">As an attestation to this, I want to share
with you a piece of an article written by Tommy Hicks of AL.com</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">“<span><span><span style="color: #2a2a2a;">I
was the Auburn beat writer for the Anniston Star when Kurt starred at
Auburn and I covered his coaching career at various spots,
especially at South Alabama. But none of the memories I've had of him
since learning of his death had anything to do with his days as a
player or coach. Each memory centered on one fact: he was a good
man.”</span></span></span></span></p>

Specifically, the changes made by the new staff in both the coaching aspect and the players.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;"><span>While we won't see a big change on the field before September, we can catch a glimpse behind the scenes on social media. Whether it's Owen Pappoe referencing how they are going to look like Marines this upcoming season(due to the new strength and conditioning program), or seeing all the Wellness Kitchen </span><a href="https://twitter.com/AuburnFootball/status/1409549654132363266" target="_blank">Click Here</a> <span>video and</span> <span>pictures where our guys are cooking their own meals and having a blast doing so. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;">The players are mentioning an entirely different nutrition program tailored specifically to them. The practice routines are different. The workouts are different. The attitude is different.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;">Gone are the days of "fun" and Crossfit-style workouts. Now workouts are suited more toward an end goal, and not just to outlast your opponents by going faster from play to play. That advantage died back in 2015. Everybody had caught up to the "Hurry Up" style of play, and we weren't outpacing anybody. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;">Trovon Reed, a member of the national champion 2010 team had this to say on Twitter: </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;"><span>"</span><span style="background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.03); color: #0f1419; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span>It’s a different atmosphere in that </span></span><a class="css-4rbku5 css-18t94o4 css-901oao css-16my406 r-1n1174f r-1loqt21 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0" dir="ltr" href="https://twitter.com/AuburnFootball" role="link" style="border: 0px solid black; box-sizing: border-box; color: #1b95e0; cursor: pointer; display: inline; font-stretch: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; list-style: none; margin: 0px; min-width: 0px; overflow-wrap: break-word; padding: 0px; text-align: inherit; text-decoration-line: none; white-space: inherit;">@AuburnFootball</a> <span style="background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.03); color: #0f1419; white-space: pre-wrap;">locker room right now ! WAR DAM!"</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;">From the coaching perspective, let's just say there is a big change. The new staff is free to do their job, and coach their positions groups without a lot of input and scrutiny. Be sure that Coach Bryan Harsin is aware of what is being taught, however, he's allowing the staff to do their job instead of controlling every aspect of their job. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;"><span>A case in point is Nick Brahms. Brahms has been the starter </span><span>at the center position for Auburn</span><span> since he took over the job in 2019 vs. Ole Miss </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;"><i><span style="background-color: white; color: #303030;">"One of the biggest things we were lacking, maybe, is football IQ, </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #303030;">I think coach Friend has done a great job in teaching us the game of football."</span></i></span></p><p><span style="color: #303030; font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: georgia;">This statement struck a chord with me instantly. Football IQ?!? I rather agitatedly asked: Why hasn't he been taught "Football IQ" in the past?!? </span></span></p><p><span style="color: #303030; font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: georgia;">We can clearly see a change is happening. From every level of the football program. Coaching, workouts, support staff, and nutrition are all different. Just how all this translates to wins and losses is yet to be determined. One thing is sure. Our guys are going to be stronger, smarter, and better fueled for the task at hand. </span></span></p><p><span style="color: #303030; font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></span></p><p><span style="color: #303030; font-family: arial; font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: white;"><b>WAR EAGLE!</b></span></span></p><div class="css-1dbjc4n r-18u37iz r-kzbkwu" style="-webkit-box-align: stretch; -webkit-box-direction: normal; -webkit-box-orient: horizontal; align-items: stretch; border: 0px solid black; box-sizing: border-box; display: flex; flex-basis: auto; flex-direction: row; flex-shrink: 0; margin: 0px; min-height: 0px; min-width: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 12px; position: relative; z-index: 0;"><br /></div>AUTigerBlogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07011434653173654105noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194359419160158003.post-83192462906980035812021-07-04T13:16:00.000-05:002021-07-04T13:16:36.905-05:00Run? It will be hard to come out of this game with any true measurement with how good or bad we will be based on this game as this should be a primer game. We should never discount our opponents but unfortunately all programs were hit hard last year due to practice and experience and Akron was hit harder than Auburn only getting to play 6 games. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Prediction - Akron 3 - Auburn 38</span></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvr3mcebU8eEikerlzSizQucMSCyseaBTp5jYq7rGOHge_dwecw_1lcHyAzR0f65mOVY0YLQ55sCWnuN9475lefq-iHsyhEl4CCgOqRFXomd-lwXx8_m6k-xMTMTaSafNpOygHRIXjWLqK/s1280/Week+2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="200" data-original-width="1280" height="50" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvr3mcebU8eEikerlzSizQucMSCyseaBTp5jYq7rGOHge_dwecw_1lcHyAzR0f65mOVY0YLQ55sCWnuN9475lefq-iHsyhEl4CCgOqRFXomd-lwXx8_m6k-xMTMTaSafNpOygHRIXjWLqK/w556-h50/Week+2.jpg" width="556" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Game 2 - Alabama State Hornets vs Auburn Tigers, Auburn, AL @11:00AM CT Televised on SECN</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Do I start all of these with second game of the Coach Harsin era? 😏 Why not! In our second week the Hornets come to town again. in our one and only meeting back in 2018 our Tigers curb stomped them 63 - 9. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The Hornets are actually coming in with some fresh football experience given they played their games this past spring. They went 3 - 3 but one of their dubs was a forfeit so they actually only played 5 games. The last one being on April 14th, 2021, against Alabama A&M in the Magic City Classic where they lost 38 - 14.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I believe they will be coming into JordanHare 1 - 0 as they play Miles in their first week (Look at that a bonus call). Even with these two undefeated teams coming in with some momentum I do not think the Hornets will have what it takes to outlast the Tigers. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Prediction - Alabama State 10 - Auburn 45</span></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnQy0QqKaM2DNlKfTlzTh0F4bSy5QWs3YSXdUuVIH_miN3jRNGmYVRPHaiPrwZBSAbTHbNXFlh8BpVfJ_GGrkKdtJ-0xMXbCBGySKuCG3KM_IIcPbHrqr2mU-YPvK3Fo8g_8XUCzQfdIuH/s1280/Week+3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="200" data-original-width="1280" height="50" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnQy0QqKaM2DNlKfTlzTh0F4bSy5QWs3YSXdUuVIH_miN3jRNGmYVRPHaiPrwZBSAbTHbNXFlh8BpVfJ_GGrkKdtJ-0xMXbCBGySKuCG3KM_IIcPbHrqr2mU-YPvK3Fo8g_8XUCzQfdIuH/w575-h50/Week+3.jpg" width="575" /></a></div><br /><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Game 3 - Auburn Tigers vs Penn State Nittany Lions, University Park, PA @6:30PM ET Televised on ABC</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Well, here we are in week 3 of Coach Harsin era and it is a doozy! Penn State is coming in preseason ranked at #16 in the USA Today poll. Auburn and Penn State have only played twice in the history of these two universities. Auburn won the last one in the Jan 1, 2003, Capital One Bowl 13 - 9 and Penn State beating Auburn in the Outback Bowl on Jan 1, 1996 destroying the Tigers 43 - 14.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Obviously being on the road, really not being able to get a real test in our first two games will be a detriment to getting our Tigers ready for the absolute hostile environment they are going to have to execute on a very big stage. Another aspect is Penn State in week 1 plays the 13th ranked Wisconsin Badgers Team and this will be a brawl in week one. If Penn State loses to the Badgers, this will immediately put them in a position that the Auburn game in week #3 is almost a must win. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Honestly, I have never seen in the recent era where Penn State has been a dominating team, much like Auburn so this is not a given type of situation. Anyone who claims this is an easy win for Penn State is just riding a hype bus... Penn State rarely has an easy win against a D1 opponent sort of like our experience lately down here on the plains. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I just think our young team given their experience will need to do too much to knock the Nittany Lions off in their home den and our Tigers may have their tails between their legs leaving Beaver stadium. 😢 Not going to support them any less or start criticizing them, it will be what it is, just a tough road trip.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Prediction - Auburn Tigers 13 - Penn State 27</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVRw8acyPYrfJCgmxM1TsEu4G6N7aKfJh-WFDHoOFOQMgEubI31x6E4mNl2dZtAgxvybACLNQS0P6GHI5R5Pnv4m-RpsEpD_qghSx2QEguQEx_oiBTYz6UdQIn48szKLGWdFIQ1c214e5N/s1414/Schedule+2021+1+-+3+Blog+copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1240" data-original-width="1414" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVRw8acyPYrfJCgmxM1TsEu4G6N7aKfJh-WFDHoOFOQMgEubI31x6E4mNl2dZtAgxvybACLNQS0P6GHI5R5Pnv4m-RpsEpD_qghSx2QEguQEx_oiBTYz6UdQIn48szKLGWdFIQ1c214e5N/s320/Schedule+2021+1+-+3+Blog+copy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><span style="font-size: medium;">My heart says we will be 3 - 0 after Week 3 but my brain is telling me something different and to maintain some level of objectivity it is what it is.... </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">War Eagle Y'all and God Bless!</span></p><p><br /></p>AURobUSAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00460795219368721663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194359419160158003.post-3741482430946158432021-06-15T15:09:00.000-05:002021-06-15T15:09:31.748-05:00QB Stew<p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhehbXF8gOveDWIUXdHYGdTqEG8Ijc2ev-GrrKnjr5XyCBtyWV12-yCFu7BpPae6rYZ1y6kSXbiZuXDa291qmQf7aaFh4VClLyWaLc0CYM_iLOwGeUTtXK5sv5ucs6BDYEMuS9Ph9VzVwLT/s2048/Bo+Open+Practice.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1379" data-original-width="2048" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhehbXF8gOveDWIUXdHYGdTqEG8Ijc2ev-GrrKnjr5XyCBtyWV12-yCFu7BpPae6rYZ1y6kSXbiZuXDa291qmQf7aaFh4VClLyWaLc0CYM_iLOwGeUTtXK5sv5ucs6BDYEMuS9Ph9VzVwLT/w400-h269/Bo+Open+Practice.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></div>I decided to give this idea time to stew. It's not a talent gap, it's an SEC game experience gap. After all, Davis just arrived at Auburn. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Here is a snippet from Davis' bio on the official website</span>: <span style="background-color: white; color: #2a2b2c;"><span style="font-family: trebuchet; font-size: large;"><i>Outstanding dual-threat quarterback who led North Shore High to a 14-1 record and the state semifinals in 2020 … 3,553 yards passing with 38 TD and 875 yards rushing with 22 score</i></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">It's worth noting these numbers were achieved in the highest echelon of Texas high school football. Enough said.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">I am not going to discuss the other QB's that are in the room because they have very little chance of seeing action this season. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">SEC game experience. This is the main reason Auburn went after T. J. Finley when he entered the transfer portal. Finley has tremendous upside and elite arm strength. Two more factors that made Finley a great target for the Auburn Tiger QB room.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">The "What Ifs" </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">These are my thoughts. They are not known quantities, but just my personal opinions and guesses. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Nobody on the current coaching staff cares who starts for Auburn at QB. They want the best guy to prove it's his team. </span><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Bo may have the highest upside of any QB other than the two currently in the NFL. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">There is a caveat. None of the QB's recently recruited out of high school made significant improvement year to year. Including Bo. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">For some QB's it takes a couple of seasons. Their bodies are still growing. The strength and conditioning programs are unlike anything they have done previously. Then there is coaching. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Finley was thrust into the starting role at LSU as a true freshman. Usually, this is not a recipe for success. It wasn't. It was not a failure either. Finley had some very impressive moments that should translate well to the new Auburn offense. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Much like Bo Nix's first campaign.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">If Auburn for some reason had to start Dematrius Davis, it would not be an ideal scenario. Over the years, very few true Freshman QB's have played at a championship level. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">However, Now Nix, Finley, and Davis have proven QB developers in their corner. Hopefully, we see major improvement this upcoming season. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">The big plus to this comes from knowing the best teams have a QB ready to come off the bench and keep the championship drive alive. Let me insert that this author has long clamored for more teams in the playoff for the national championship each season. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Never in my wildest dream did I think the committee would be considering a 12 team playoff. One caveat leaked is these first-round games might be "on campus" games. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">That is a huge piece of information, and a tremendous incentive to have a good record which would mean an additional home game each season for any team that didn't make the Top 4 spots. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Now to Auburn. It is far too early to know for certain if Coach Bryan Harsin will have Auburn in the playoff race any time soon. However, this author can dream, and dream big, so let's dive in.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Our first look will be at the upcoming season. 2021 will be the most difficult season for this staff and this team to climb the mountain and make the fall dance if you will. </span></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K788poRDF7I/YMKRPNJzgvI/AAAAAAAAQwI/WUebqzx1fyA8Tm5Rg0Uv8JY6lHuyevYfgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Punter%2Bat%2BX.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1258" data-original-width="2048" height="246" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K788poRDF7I/YMKRPNJzgvI/AAAAAAAAQwI/WUebqzx1fyA8Tm5Rg0Uv8JY6lHuyevYfgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h246/Punter%2Bat%2BX.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Punter at "X"<br />From Josh Dowdy @heartofauburn<br />available here: <br />https://teespring.com/shop/punter-at-x?pid=2&cid=576</td></tr></tbody></table><p><br /><span style="font-size: medium;">First, Coach Harsin and his Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo are creating their offensive playbook. Included in this will be the language used for play-calling. Other items may include route designation for each receiver position. What the former staff called the "X" position may not be what this staff decides to name it. In fact, the two coaches creating this offense may not even have called this position the same thing prior to coming to Auburn. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Obviously, I gave away my main concern with this season by mentioning the offense first. It is, in my opinion, the biggest question mark on the entire team. The questions start with the head coach and trickle down throughout the entire offense. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am confident the defense will be at the very least serviceable, and most likely very good. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">So, back to the playoff picture. Nobody knows when this new 12 team playoff will begin. When it does, Auburn "should never have a season they are not in the playoff picture. Unless it starts this coming fall. Let me expound.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Once the schedule was announced, and the university announced Auburn football games will be played at full capacity attendance, I went back through our opponents to see what I thought was plausible record-wise for this team. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">My firm belief is 8 wins should be the pivot point for this team. The only way I wouldn't be disappointed with a 7 win season would be a rash of injuries or each loss was by one score (6 points) or less. That would mean there is hope for the future. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">8 wins would be a good signal that things are trending up. Unless the losses are complete blowouts. Double-digit losses to 4 teams would not be a good indicator of improvement. Basically, that would be treading water, and we are all tired of treading water at this point. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">9 wins. Now, 9 wins would mean we took down someone on our schedule that everybody else has written us off as losing to. Whether it's finally winning at Redstick, or knocking off UGA or Bama. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">3 losses, even with one of the toughest schedules in the country probably wouldn't get Auburn in a 12 team playoff. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Then again...</span></p><p><br /></p><p>WAR EAGLE!</p><p><br /></p><p>***editors note Minutes after this article was published, news broke that this 12 team playoff would begin at the end of the 2023 football season. </p>AUTigerBlogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07011434653173654105noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194359419160158003.post-32285081276648530692021-05-22T07:14:00.003-05:002021-05-22T07:14:46.476-05:00The #EverythingSchool & Championships<p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9V5IaFtgO-w/YKj1bu1GJEI/AAAAAAAAQgc/RKlsLYUsNIQp430RyT-5Mfwm6dilDV5YgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1440/Luellen_AuburnWGolf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="810" data-original-width="1440" height="360" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9V5IaFtgO-w/YKj1bu1GJEI/AAAAAAAAQgc/RKlsLYUsNIQp430RyT-5Mfwm6dilDV5YgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h360/Luellen_AuburnWGolf.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">photo courtesy of the AUfficial website <br />taken by Michael Wade</td></tr></tbody></table><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">The Auburn Women's golf team started their chase for a national championship yesterday at the <span style="background-color: white;">par 72, 6,384-yard Grayhawk Golf Course in Scottsdale. It’s an exciting time for the Auburn family, one we can all get excited about. We have every reason to be confident about a future where our football team consistently competes at the highest levels and makes us proud on and off the field.<br /><br />Let me begin by saying thank you to Coach Malzahn for some great “highs” in Auburn football. Coach Malzahn is a man of great character, his student-athletes performed well athletically and academically, and his teams always played by the rules. In every regard, he represented Auburn with class and distinction. Thank you, Gus and Kristi. You are forever members of the Auburn family.<br /><br />When this process started, I asked Athletics Director Allen Greene to select a small group of Auburn men and women to advise and support him as we looked for a new football coach. We had a singular focus – to find a coach who will succeed in the toughest conference and who will represent Auburn well. Allen and the advisory group aimed high and hit high. They found the right man at the right time, and we welcome Coach Harsin.<br /><br />We are fortunate to be members of an Auburn family passionate about our university. In the past couple of weeks, we received countless emails and notes with suggestions on selecting our next coach. Let me add that I read every one, and I appreciate your enthusiasm. Every Auburn voice is important.<br /><br />It is also important to remember that not everything that is reported or posted on social media is accurate when it comes to coaching searches. In fact, some of it is disruptive, inaccurate and malicious. In our coaching search for example, no candidate was told that there were stipulations on who would serve on his coaching staff – not one. Only one trustee, who actually served on the search advisory group, had any part in the search process. Some candidates who reportedly “turned down” the Auburn job were never even offered the job. One candidate that made these statements never even had an interview, much less an offer.<br /><br />Coach Harsin and I agree on many things and one thing is that much of what you see and read on social media are opinions or statements that are simply not based on fact. I regret that these comments hurt our university and many good Auburn people. Free speech is a treasured American right, but the Auburn family should also have the right to know the facts.<br /><br />Tomorrow we start a new chapter for Auburn football. We wish to thank all of those who gave their input about our university and our football program, and we especially thank the Auburn family for their enthusiasm, loyalty and passion for our university. Let’s join together as we unite behind Coach Harsin and use this experience as a time of excitement and growth.<br /><br />War Eagle!<br /><br />Jay Gogue</span></span></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table><p></p>AUTigerBlogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07011434653173654105noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194359419160158003.post-59344960602673471252020-12-22T09:46:00.001-06:002020-12-22T09:46:25.201-06:00An Open Letter<p> December 22, 2020</p><p><br /></p><p>To Whom It May Concern,</p><p>It is to my horror that I must write this letter to you. Knowing full well the words I have so carefully chosen will fall upon deaf ears. </p><p>My beloved Auburn is in the middle of a crisis, and it pains me to watch knowing the answer is simple, yet very complicated to get to.</p><p>You see, we are looking for a football coach. A coach that has a very high IQ and great knowledge of the sport. He must own the mental fortitude to stare deep into the eyes of the enemy, and find the way to victory. Unfortunately, at this time, the enemy is us.</p><p>For reasons one could only speculate, the hiring process has become a national disaster. Bringing with it a light on the process that paints an eerie glow of impending doom. How could this happen? Why would anyone want this to happen? Again, I can only speculate. </p><p>It seems we have a leak in our plumbing system, and we are telling the plumbers we interview which tool would work best to repair the leak. In that, we have turned away many qualified plumbers. Even fired the one we had on retainer. </p><p>Or better yet.....</p><p>Our carpenter we want to hire has a great plan, including building materials, to carry out what we all want. </p><p>Instead of agreeing to a price, and letting the carpenter work, we are dictating which building products to buy, where to buy the product, and who can work beside him to build the finished product we dream of.</p><p>I understand the concept of hiring contractors to do work. You might give the plumber or carpenter the keys to the house, but not the safe where the money is.</p><p>I am pleading with the football committee to hire a great contractor, and give him the keys to the house. Let the contractor decide which tools he'll use, and which products.</p><p>Then, and only then, will Grand 'Ole Auburn return to glory.</p><p>War Eagle!</p><p>Sincerely, </p><p>Klell Lawrence</p>AUTigerBlogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07011434653173654105noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194359419160158003.post-39832058460949313392019-09-29T09:12:00.001-05:002019-09-29T09:12:51.875-05:00Whoopin' Dogs & Takin' Names<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Beat down. Crushed. Destroyed.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I could go on, although I think you get the idea. The way this game unfolded was unlike anything any one of us expected. Auburn flat out handled Mississippi State in J.H.S. for a 56-23 victory Saturday night.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/isBOeeTj2jw/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/isBOeeTj2jw?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Every mistake the Bulldogs made in the first half was punished with an Auburn touchdown. The Tigers took their first five possessions and scored. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Everything seemed to work to the home teams advantage. Except the a few suspect rulings on the field, and the dreaded fumble bug. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Auburn turned the ball over 3 times. All fumbles. With an asterisk, one fumble really wasn't a fumble. It was dubiously ruled a fumble, and the replay booth did not get the call right. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">There are still many things for this team to improve on. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I would love to see improvement in our pass defense. Some weakness has been exposed the last two games. I mentioned in a tweet during the game that Auburn still has to face some high quality QB's on the schedule. The best teams in particular, Florida, which Auburn plays next week, Georgia, LSU and Alabama are very efficient passing the ball.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">While there are a ton of things I liked in this game, Auburn still has the toughest road to Atlanta in the conference. All still ahead of them. Which matches the Auburn Creed well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Work. Hard work!</span><br />

<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Auburn took a varied offensive game plan and a stingy defense on the road to victory against #17 ranked Texas A& M Saturday. The Aggie defense was slow to adjust as the Tigers jumped out to a 14-3 lead and never looked back winning by the score of 28-20.</span><div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The Tigers defense was very effective against the run. Especially in the first half, as indicated in the chart below.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="Image" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EFBIQPQXUAEGVeg?format=jpg&name=small" /></div>
<div>
Chart courtesy of <a href="https://twitter.com/AUGoldMine" target="_blank">@AUGoldmine</a> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Auburn's defense didn't allow the Aggie access to the end zone until the fourth quarter.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Meanwhile the offense came out with some different play calling. A creative mix of passes, sweeps, and Run/Pass options were effective in opening hole in the Aggie defense. Auburn took full advantage of it.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">One area the offense needs to get better is the deep pass. Nix had multiple opportunities to connect downfield, yet didn't. When that part of the offense gets in rhythm, this will become very difficult unit to defend.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">A very good conference win coupled with a solid team performance is what was needed. Auburn did just that.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">It's great for the fans to see our Tigers go on the road, and come out victorious. A tip of the hat goes out to <a href="https://auburntigers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=12825" target="_blank">Sal Cannella</a>. His perimeter blocking was outstanding, and a huge key in this win.</span></div>
<div>

</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I will attempt, key word there, to look at the upcoming game at Kyle Field against Texas A&M.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>What Can Go Wrong:</b></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">If <a href="https://auburntigers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=12823" target="_blank">Derrick Brown</a> isn't near full strength, and the injury that caused him to be pulled during the Kent St. game is more serious than we were led to believe. Then someone has to step up and fill that void. If not, the effect could be detrimental to Auburn's chances.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">If <a href="https://auburntigers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=12909" target="_blank">Prince Tega</a> is still a no show as he was during the Kent St. game, the offensive line will have to shuffled around because, oh yeah, the injury to <a href="https://auburntigers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=12891" target="_blank">Bailey Sharp</a>. It's my assumption that <a href="https://auburntigers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=12834" target="_blank">Jack Driscoll</a> will be moved to left tackle, and <a href="https://auburntigers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=12820" target="_blank">Nick Brahms</a> will step in at center. That moves the right side of the line outward.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The fourth game into the season is where you would hope the offensive line could start asserting itself strongly. Chemistry having already been established. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Throw in a few position changes, and a new player inserted and you get a big fat question mark in an area that was already under heavy (pardon the pun) scrutiny.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Auburn's defense has been a little shaky against the pass. If this keeps up, things could get messy in a hurry. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Kellen Mond is a true threat to run. He's also very capable of keeping plays alive, and thus giving his receivers plenty of time to find an open spot on the field. Auburn simply can not let this happen very often. The results will be a very tired Auburn defense, and a road loss of epic proportions.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>What Can Go Right:</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The injuries to Derrick Brown, and Prince Tega are very minor, both play, and thus the musical chairs game wouldn't be necessary along the offensive or defensive lines.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Auburn must be able to run the ball effectively in order for the offense to operate at a high level. Continued improvement in this area is a must against SEC opponents. If we see more improvement in the run game, Auburn can make this a good game. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">If Auburn can somehow start connecting on some of the longer pass plays, then good things will happen. The Aggies have a weakness. Their pass defense is not where they would want it to be heading into conference play. If Auburn can exploit that, it could get ugly for the home team.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>Predictions:</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Auburn could play a flawless game and score 40+ points. I don't see it happening, but....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This will most likely be a defensive battle with a ton of adjustments made by both squads. Who makes them quicker, and better? Who wins the turnover margin? Which team wants it more? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">A loss here doesn't bode well for Auburn with the difficult schedule they still have in front of them. While a win doesn't guarantee anything. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Texas A&M on the other hand simply can not afford to lose another game. They would stand zero chance at making the playoffs if they lose at home to Auburn.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The Aggies have lost their primary RB for at least this game. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">That makes it Auburn 27 Aggies 24.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Gus Malzahn's message was clear. Zero turnovers and run the ball. Auburn did just that en route to a 55 to 16 victory over Kent State for Homecoming 2019. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The Tigers rushed for 467 yards, and 6 touchdowns. Averaging 7.5 per carry as they fine tuned their rushing game heading into next weeks SEC opener against Texas A&M.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Good morning everyone and War Eagle!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Our Football Tigers are 2-0 to start the season. While that's not news, it's a very positive start. Are they playing great football right now? No. Are they winning? Yes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">No doubt we'd like to see a much more productive output from our offense, and I think we will this week against Kent State. That said, I recall in the preseason press conference, Gus Malzahn telling us that he was going to lean on his defense early, maybe 4-5 games while the offense matures. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">We have seen flashes of what the future could be, it's just going to take some time. A luxury, Auburn runs out of after this weekend. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">On a personal note: I had been blessed to take a dream vacation. Traveling around the western United States this summer, I was able to visit many of our National Parks, and some other very beautiful places. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">From extreme SE Alabama to Glacier National Park, and over to Coos Bay, OR.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">We met tons of nice people. Went to some great small town restaurants. Enjoyed some really nice weather, and made it home safely. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">I don't regret that I made the decision to not post about Auburn while I was gone. Although, I am happy to be back, and look forward to the rest of the season with you.</span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Fourteen weeks ago, we suffered an immeasurable loss to our Auburn
Family. Rod and Paula were called home leaving two children, family, friends
and the Auburn Family in shock. This is right after in my humble opinion was the most
amazing year in Auburn Athletics history. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">As the game started yesterday, for the first time in 24
years of marriage, my wife and I sat down next to each other to watch Auburn
Football. You see, I tend to scream and get loud but yesterday was not about the
outcome it was about being able to share. To share the moments that would be
unfolding in the game. We watched the team and the institution we both graduated from and
love. A week ago, we got a sobering reality check that we are lucky to even be
here sharing this moment.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I was not able to do the 100’s of the tweets during the
game, I am not back there yet, giving status, graphics and my opinion (which is
only that) about what is going on. I am just not fully there yet, but I did follow
my feed by reading what others were tweeting. Al Kotero had to remind everyone football was a 4 Quarter game 😀<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The message is simple, and I tweeted it yesterday but wanted
to put it in a post, so it did not fly by on a feed. I believe it is that
important. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

always believing, hoping and supporting. There will be ups and downs but
always, always know that if you believe and are a supporter when things
bounce back the triumphs are a thousand times sweeter… don’t take for granted the
ability to be here, in the now, with your family and friends sharing in what you love
and are passionate about. </span></i><br />
<i><span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">We know it can all change in a second...<o:p></o:p></span></i></div>

<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Some took to twitter in the first half expressing opinions
and feedback, it is absolutely your right to do so. I can tell you as my wife
and I sat watching, believing and knowing that we are Auburn, and this is just
what Auburn does. We just believed and were supporting our coaches and players
for better outcomes, wanting the defense to shake it off and get a stop, and
they did. Knowing that they would and could turn it around and that just being
able to watch football again was honestly a blessing within itself. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

I still pray for those who were left behind to carry on the family name, honor them and remember them. This however comes with pain and sometimes a want to just have it subside.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This was written last week and the artwork was completed after we defeated North Carolina in the Supers. To see this team and these young men come together behind this coach is truly inspiring.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">When I first heard the news, like everyone else, I was devastated. I spent a while praying, "These kids need a parent! What are you doing, God?" Of course, a while later, I heard the news that he had passed. I spent the next day reading the comments and tributes of people who knew him well or knew him. The first thing I thought was, "God, why does this keep happening to us? Why would you take him and his wife? What about these kids?"</span></div>

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "roboto" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: white;">I was comforted a little bit at that time. However, the more I read what people had to say, the more I was blown away. I did not know Rod. I saw him innumerable times at games. He was always doing his game day broadcast. Sometimes I would stop and listen for a little while. I wish I had stayed a few minutes longer. I wish I would've taken them time to tell him thank you or to meet him. I procrastinated writing this post. I used the excuse that I could not find a particular radio broadcast that I wanted. I still have not found it, but it was really just that I was not ready to write. I do not know why the days of Rod's life were fewer than we wanted. It does not seem to be that taking home two lovely people would be part of the master plan, but God's ways are not our ways. Here is what I do know. Rod radiated joy. He felt what we felt. He made us feel what he wanted. He had the ability to turn a phrase like no other person. He was generous. He loved Auburn. He loved our players. He made them feel important. He loved with his whole heart and let us know that he did. There is not a better Auburn man that I can think of. Rod got to do what he loved and had some really special calls. I have found it extremely hard to name a favorite, but if I had to name one, it would be this: "The view from up here is sheer perfection."</span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">The most difficult post I have ever attempted, bar none. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Shaken with the death of Rod and Paula Bramblett, I have wrestled with whether or not my thoughts were worth sharing. I was encouraged by the wonderful group of folks that write for our humble site to make the effort. So, here goes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">The people of my age that love Auburn have had the envious pleasure of hearing some truly memorable broadcasts of our Tigers. These calls gave us a sense of belonging. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">When the NCAA ruled a television ban against Auburn in 1993, we had Jim Fyffe articulating every aspect of the game including just how rich blue the sky was. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">For Auburn fans, we knew we had the best in the business working for us. Helping our minds visualize the entirety of the scene. Whether it be basketball or football. Then suddenly, Jim Fyffe was taken from us. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">"Every blessing has it's own little burden." - Unknown</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Blessings being what they are, Auburn caught lightening in a bottle, not once, but twice! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Enter Rod Bramblett. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">A friend of mine, reached out in the immediate aftermath of our devastating news Saturday evening. "It's hard to follow a legend, and he (Rod Bramblett) did it." </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">That resonates with me today. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">I have never heard anything but praise from those who knew Mr. Bramblett. Whether they worked with him, or met him in passing. He was a gentle spirit by all accounts. He will be missed. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">I can't think of a better soundtrack to blend the calls of these two Auburn legends, than that of the country music legend George Jones. "Whose Gonna Fill Their Shoes" ENJOY!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre-wrap;">I needed a few days before I could write my senior thank you. One reason I have delayed writing it is because I do not want to say goodbye to these guys. This was an amazing season. The post-season was indescribable. I had so much fun watching basketball this season. Years ago, I fell in love with watching the NCAA tournament after I was able to attend the first two rounds with the pep band at USM. The tournament is always fun for me but this season will always be extra special. Even one day when I know Auburn will go on to win the championship, I will remember this team. This team built the foundation for future generations. As a whole team- thank you. What y'all did was so incredible. The theory that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts was in full effect. Even though I tried to delay it, the time has come to say my thank yous. </span></div>

Not only the season but the team chemistry was also magical. I remember when you got smacked in the mouth and insisted you keep playing. What a warrior! We are going to miss your tenacity and basketball skills, but I think more than anything we are going to miss your personality. Thank you for your time and dedication to Auburn. Your hard work will always be remembered. I know we will hear about great things from you in the future. Please come visit when you can and stay in touch with your Auburn family. You've proven over the last few years that a walk-on can make a difference. Of course, this year you were able to transition to scholarship player. Thank you for everything you did for Auburn. I hope you had as much fun playing as we did watching over the last few years. One day, Auburn is going to win a national championship and when we do, we are going to be able to point back to you and this team. Thank you for everything. We were all devastated at your injury. Your sweet smile really stood out this season. While you are not as jokey and smiley as Malik, your smile is sweet and honest. Seriously, thanks for your hard work and dedication. The entrance you made into the arena at halftime vs Kentucky was super special. I know you did not feel like it but you came anyway for your team. I loved the videos of you advancing the team in the bracket. We can never express the appreciation for all you did for us this season. I hope everything goes perfectly for you. <span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">At the time of this writing, I am sitting in San Antonio, Texas. It is 6:30 in the morning, and my coffee is perfect company. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I wanted to share some of my thoughts with you, and in doing so, take a brief escape from the coming day of hard physical labor that awaits. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Tiger Woods:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">While I understand the mix of emotions for Mr. Woods from some, because of his personal ( read private ) life drama, I can't help but be elated about his success at the Masters Tournament. From sports greatness, to wondering if he will ever be able to walk comfortably again, then a return to sports greatness after a surgical procedure, is the stuff that sports dreams, and movies, are made of. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Speaking of golf, the Auburn Women's golf team has been on an upward swing. See what I did there? Anyway, after finishing second at the Clemson Invitational, the ladies have started the SEC Championships on a tear. If you are in the Birmingham area, and would love to see our Ladies in action, they are playing at Greystone on the Legacy course.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Auburn Football:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I have zero clue who the QB will be that starts against Oregon on August 31st, in Arlington, Texas. What I do know, is I saw real improvement in the throwing motion of Malik Willis, and Joey Gatewood. Not that I know enough to coach the position, more of an accuracy, and quickness of the release when throwing the ball. Both of these gentlemen seemed much better.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Bo Nix showed he can become a real dynamic force when he has the ball. It's no wonder he was highly sought after.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Our RB's look good behind a much improved offensive line. Hopefully the RB's can pass protect better this season.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">The Tigers defense may not start out as strong as last season's unit, but by mid season they will be very good. Barring a lot of injuries, this defense can become great. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">That's all for now. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">War Eagle!</span><br />
